Photoprism
Photo/video management app, that seems to function as a reasonable substitute for Jellyfin.
Jellyfin tries to be the do-it-all app for all media files, including music, video, images. Which makes it seem a little slow, and is relatively resource-heavy. Page loads are slow, and so is loading of video media - likely because quality of video is prioritized as much as possible.
Photoprism excels in providing fast on-demand transcoding, rapid access to video, does not enforce filename/directory requirements beyond metadata, and loads as the library is being indexed. Overall faster option.
Some issues, as of 2021-08-22:
- Metadata is king. Videos must have the title metadata filled to accurately show on the loading screen.
- Very photo-centric, i.e. for Google Photos
- At the moment the AI for image recognition is horrible, barely recognizing features like "building" or "brown". Not that great for face recognition either.
- Loses Jellyfin-style display of images/videos that showcase them, now simply listed as a gallery with screengrabs from the video itself.
